The Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division of FAO is pleased to announce the publication of the technical study “Pathways for agrifood systems transformation and regional cooperation in the Mediterranean”. Recognizing the urgent need for transformative change in agrifood systems across the region, this comprehensive study explores the unique social, economic, and environmental challenges Mediterranean countries face, offering strategies for sustainable development through regional cooperation, building on insights from the UN Food Systems Summit process.
This technical study aims to inspire stakeholders across sectors to adopt systems thinking, recognizing that transformative change indeed requires a systems approach addressing the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability, as well as the relationships and interconnections within and beyond the agrifood system. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of collaborative networks, identifying existing initiatives and partnerships that can be strengthened to foster shared learning and support collective progress.
