The third FAO/CBD/OECD webinar on international databases on biosafety: Training on effective use of data on the databases

9 December 2015

The webinar report is available here.

FAO, UNEP-CBD and OECD hosted the 3rd webinar that provided a training opportunity in understanding the location, contents, specific meanings and possible use of the data that are made available on the databases.

On 12 November 2014 the first webinar on international databases on biosafety was jointly organized by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). During the webinar, the mandates, scopes and activities of three databases namely the FAO GM Foods Platform, the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) and the OECD BioTrack product database were discussed.

Following the recommendations made during the first webinar, the second webinar was held on 27 May 2015. The second webinar highlighted the importance of strengthening/establishing effective national communication and coordination mechanisms on the topic of biosafety.

Many participants recognized the usefulness of the webinars in exchanging information and country experiences and thus requested FAO/CBD/OECD to continue organizing more webinars. More training opportunities through webinars on the topic of biosafety are also requested. In order to address this, the third joint FAO/CBD/OECD webinar was planned with an aim to provide training to the participants. The webinar was entitled “The third joint FAO/CBD/OECD webinar on international databases on biosafety: Training on effective use of data on the databases.”.
