As my country is exercising federal system most of food safety assessment is carried out with federal ministry of health with its health regulatory wing called Ethiopian food and drug administration (EFDA) and its respective regional health regulatory bureaus for processed and semi processed foods. And as the same time raw/intact agricultural produces is mandated to federal ministry of agriculture and its respective regional agricultural bureaus.

Based on Proclamation No.896/2015 Biosafety (Amendment) Proclamation article 2 (1) (1) definition of GM' is means any biological entity which has been artificially synthesized, or in which the genetic material or the expression of any of its traits has been changed by the introduction of any foreign gene whether taken from another organism, from a fossil organism or artificially synthesized;

According to Proclamation No.1112/2019 Food and Medicine Administration Proclamation article 54 (c) state clearly about GM …A food containing genetically modified element may only be placed on the market if it is packaged and its label contains the phrase “genetically modified” “genetically modified organism” or other comparable description.
