Based on the AD1 of 0-100 µg/kg of body weight established by the Committee, the permitted daily intake of isometamidium would be 6 mg of total drug-related residue contributed by 500 g of meat together with 1.5 l of milk in the diet of a 60 kg person. From the study in bulls given isometamidium intramuscularly at 1 mg/kg bw, the Committee concluded that, at 30 days withdrawal time, the intake of residues of isometamidium would be well below the ADI. It therefore recommended an MRL of 0.1 mg/kg for parent isometamidium in muscle and fat, 0.5 mg/kg in liver, 1.0 mg/kg in kidney,and 0.1 mg/l in milk. Concentrations of total residues at the injection site at 30 days withdrawal time averaged 96 mg/kg in the study in dairy cows and pid=63155; however, the Committee concluded that these residues would not adversely affect human food safety for the following reasons: - Isometamidium residues in tissues are not bioavailable to any significant extent and pid=63155; - Consumption of an injection site would be extremely rare and pid=63155; and - the maximum theoretical intake of residues from muscle, liver, kidney, fat and milk of isometamidium at 30 days withdrawal time is well below the ADI.
