Forest and Farm Facility

Webinar series

Forest and farm producer organizations as key change agents
for climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods

Forest and farm producer organizations (FFPOs) bring together smallholder and family farmers, Indigenous Peoples and members of local communities to pursue shared goals such as climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods. With their vast collective membership, they manage significant areas of the world's land, produce much of its food, drive rural finance and enterprise, play a crucial role in climate change adaptation and mitigation, and conserve a large share of the world’s biodiversity.

This four-part webinar series – “Forest and farm producer organizations as key change agents of change for climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods” – is conceived as a dynamic and engaging exchange of knowledge that connects and empowers FFPOs and their members. The series offers a unique opportunity to gain insights from FFPO leaders, share knowledge, and foster meaningful connections within the Forest and Farm Facility communities of practice.

The webinar series will take place via Zoom. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Spanish, French and English.

The collective action of forest and farm producers (FFPOs) can powerfully mobilize the voices of multitudes. By developing clear advocacy agendas and participating in multi-stakeholder processes, FFPOs can ensure that their members' interests are represented and integrated into subnational, national and global policies and that such policies produce tangible benefits, such as improved land rights, increased access to resources, and fair taxation. Strengthening of internal governance and the promotion of gender equality in FFPOs are also crucial for effective policy engagement.

This webinar will explore how FFPOs influence and shape national and subnational policies and legal frameworks to create more supportive environments for their members and sustainable land management. The focus will be on process and the importance of clear, member-approved advocacy agendas in FFPOs. Speakers will share their experiences in conducting needs assessments, consolidating members’ opinions, and formalizing advocacy priorities through inclusive processes.

They manage agrobiodiversity and deploy agroecological practices that are essential for ecological and climate resilience; their collective action can significantly enhance climate-change mitigation and adaptation efforts at scale.

This webinar will focus on the contributions of FFPOs to climate-change adaptation and mitigation and to ecosystem restoration. It will present examples of the implementation of sustainable forest management plans and provide insights into the processes and enabling conditions that support FFPOs.

Webinar #4: Enhancing access to social and cultural services for forest and farm communities

19 March 2026

🕘 Time: 15.00–16.30 UTC+2
07.00–08.30 Guatemala | 08.00–09.30 Ecuador, Colombia |  09.00–10.30 Plurinational State of Bolivia  | 11.00–12.30 Ghana, Liberia, Gambia, Togo |

Ensuring equitable access to social and cultural services is vital for the well-being and resilience of forest and farm producers, particularly vulnerable groups. Village savings and loans associations (VSLAs) are an example of internal mechanisms that enhance financial access and social cohesion.

This webinar will present experiences in the creation and implementation of self-managed financial services like VSLAs and how these contribute to livelihood improvement by mobilizing finance for agriculture, small-scale trade, healthcare, and education, and other purposes.

Background

Established in 2012, the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) is a partnership between four international organizations with complementary skills and capacities – FAO, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and AgriCord. It is a pioneering mechanism for the direct delivery of finance and technical support intended to strengthen FFPOs, whose membership includes smallholder farmers, Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

The FFF has provided direct finance to FFPOs since 2012, bolstering their internal governance and interlinkages, and supporting them to use their strength in numbers to shape more enabling policies, build sustainable entrepreneurship, strengthen climate action and increase access to social and cultural protection. Impacts in each of these outcome areas have been strong. The Facility’s support has created more than a decade of experience in how FFPOs shape a fairer and more sustainable world.

The webinar series is part of a wide knowledge-sharing effort by the FFF and FAO’s Forestry Technical Network to amplify the voices of FFPOs and to improve knowledge sharing, influence policy, attract funding and raise public awareness of the significant contributions of FFPOs.
