Forestry outlook study for Asia-Pacific II

The first comprehensive regional outlook study for Asia and the Pacific was completed in 1998, following a three year process of information collection, collation and analysis. That study sketched a pathway for forestry in the region with a time horizon to 2010. A decade later - new issues, rapid change and better information make imperative the development of a new investigation of future directions for forestry in Asia and the Pacific.

The past decade has been a period of unprecedented change in Asia and the Pacific. The Asian economic crisis and recovery, the emergence of China as an economic superpower, and accelerating demands on the region's forests are just a few of the major developments that forestry professionals in the region are attempting to assimilate into planning strategies.

The Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study (APFSOS) is a wide-ranging initiative to gather information, examine the evolution of key forestry issues, and review important trends to identify the range of outcomes, and implications for forestry, that may arise from actions taken today. Its main purpose is to support policy review and reform.
