Conservationists met in Hanoi to participate in a regional workshop for Southeast Asia with a focus on the Lower Mekong Region. The objective of the workshop was to better understand the importance of engaging Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities as active partners in protecting wildlife against IWT, and how this can be done, through sharing and examining regional experiences and case studies across a number of Asian countries, with an emphasis on the Lower Mekong Region. There are increasing policy commitments to take action at the local community level as part of effective responses. However, there is scarce evidence that in practice such interventions are being pursued and there is scant understanding regarding how they can help. Human-Wildlife Conflicts (HWC) are a major concern in Central Africa, as they not only severely affect the food security and well-being of local populations including their safety, but also impact all wildlife conservation efforts.
