COP22 - UN System Side Event
16 November 2016
18:30-20:00
Blue Zone, Arabian Room
Marrakech, Morocco

Overview: This high-level UN System Side Event will feature a town-hall style dialogue to explore how initiatives in land-use sectors, especially activities aimed at the reduction of emissions for deforestation and forest degradation and the conservation and sustainable management of forests (REDD+) in developing countries are powerful catalysts for delivering on SDG15 and achieving country Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event will highlight country-level actions which are having impact on the ground, and discuss the way forward in supporting countries to achieve NDCs.

Objectives

  • Showcase how initiatives and partnerships in land-use sectors, especially REDD+ implementation, can be catalytic in strengthening efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, by presenting flagship joint initiatives;
  • Strategize the way forward on the agriculture – forestry nexus in the context of deforestation and delivering on SDG15 and other SDGs;
  • Discuss how the momentum created by the adoption of Paris Agreement can be leveraged to scale up funding for land use sectors, including opportunities for countries to access climate finance.
