6th Near East Forestry Week side event: Launch of the Status of Mediterranean Forests 2025

Join FAO and Silva Mediterranea – the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions for the release of the third edition of the Status of Mediterranean Forests report. The launch will take place at a side event for the 6th Near East Forestry Week, which runs alongside the 27th Session of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission meeting, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Building on earlier editions published in 2013 and 2018, this new report provides a comprehensive overview of the current state and trends of Mediterranean forests. It highlights urgent challenges such as degradation, biodiversity loss, climate change impacts and the rising threat of wildfires, while showcasing nature-based solutions including forest and landscape restoration, integrated fire management and post-fire restoration.

The launch reflects Silva Mediterranea’s long-standing mission to connect science, policy and practice, reinforced by the collaboration of partners and the strengthening of regional cooperation within global frameworks such as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
