وصف : Two WFW forest finance sessions will support COFO 20 Agenda Item 6: Forest finance and governance. In the "New developments in forest finance" session, the focus will be to brief COFO delegates on emerging opportunities to access funding and technical support for REDD+ related international efforts (FCPF, GEF, FIP, UN-REDD) and efforts to integrate REDD+ into landscape related management (GPFLR, Model Forests). A complementary session in the Green Room will link policy dialogue and implementation with a focus on national and local activities.

وصف : In recent years the question of how to broaden and diversify the financial basis for sustainable forest management (SFM) has received increasing attention in policy, research, and development fora. Access to new and increased levels of financing is increasingly seen as a necessary complement to policy and regulatory approaches to promote SFM. This informal dialogue is designed to share experiences in communicating more effectively the attractiveness of sustainable forest management to the financial sector. Examples may include engaging the finance sector in the collaborative development of financing strategies and instruments, joint efforts to improve the policy and institutional environment to make it more conducive to investment and market development, knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives. Specifically, the dialogue will provide an opportunity to: • Share experiences on communication strategies or institutional innovations that are helping increase the visibility of the sector and access additional financing; • Exchange perspectives on financing challenges and opportunities between forest representatives, potential funding source representatives, and agencies playing a facilitative role; • Clarify essential elements needed to better position forestry as an attractive (economic, social, environmental) investment venture; and • Discuss what may be done to move forward. This dialogue complements the COFO 20 agenda item 6: “Strengthening public sector finance for SFM”.

وصف : The Conference will bring together policy specialists, economists, managers and decision makers to discuss how forest policies, governance and institutions are being and will be affected by the new economic mechanisms and what changes will be required to adapt to the new rules of the game. Global policy and economic analysis as well as national and field based case studies will be presented and discussed with the objective to contribute to a common vision of the directions the evolution of forest policies, institutions and the regulatory framework should take in response to the growing importance of those innovative economic mechanisms. Special consideration will be given to the present debate and prospects for REDD or REDD+.

وصف : The Growing Forest Partnerships (GFP) facilitates and responds to local dialogue and engagement to mobilise a growing range of partnerships that build on successful forest management and funding mechanisms to support locally defined alliances and ways of working for both people and forests. This side event will highlight the results of GFP until now in the 5 countries where it is actively supporting local-national partnerships and investment preparedness as well as its efforts to stimulate international partnerships between major forest Alliances representing small holders, Indigenous People and Community forest owners. Presentation of the progress made over the past 2 years of the implementation of the Growing Forest Partnerships in 5 countries as well as the impact of this initiative at the global level.

The exhibition is open to COFO/ WFW registered participants.
