Eighteen countries (Non-Annex I Parties) have been preliminarily selected:

  • seven in Africa: Algeria, Ghana, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia
  • five in South America: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay
  • six in Asia: Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand

At country level, technical staff from governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations will be involved in the programme. In each country the project will start a national process that will address each country’s specific national circumstances and that will include all relevant national stakeholders on this topic. FAO and INPE will foster momentum among the participating countries, South-South cooperation and regional approaches.

In countries, project activities will only start after an official request for support is submitted by the country institutions responsible for climate change and forestry. UNFCCC National Focal Points and FAO FRA National Correspondents will coordinate the official requests for support through an expression of interest.
