Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition (FSN Forum)

FAO is developing a new strategy for engagement with the private sector. To ensure that the strategy is fit for purpose, FAO is seeking inputs from the private sector. To do so, FAO is hosting a series virtual meetings and a 3-part online consultation during the period 2 to 24 July 2020 to discuss how FAO and the private sector can work together in accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has developed into the greatest global health, social and financial challenge of the 21st century. It is impacting not only people’s lives, livelihoods and nutrition but also food trade, food supply chains and markets.
With this online consultation we invite you to share examples, best practices and case studies of how the impact of the COVID-19 containment measures on food security and agriculture are being managed in your countries from a trade and logistics point of view.

The emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is complicating the management of many infectious diseases. It endangers animal health and welfare, food production and adversely affects the functioning of human, animal and plant health systems and economies. What can be done to communicate these risks effectively, ensuring the proactive participation of stakeholders at all levels in adressing this issue?

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement presents Africa with a unique opportunity to unleash its economic potential for inclusive growth and sustainable development. For it to be conducive to food security and improved nutrition it is widely agreed that AfCFTA will have to be supported with accompanying measures and policies. This online discussion aims at opening an exchange of ideas, good practices and lessons learned on the challenges and prospects to the implementation of the AfCFTA in the agricultural sector. 

Today, approximately 71% of child labour, or 108 million children worldwide, is found in the agriculture sector. Child labour perpetuates a cycle of poverty for the children involved, their families and communities, where they are likely to be the rural poor of tomorrow. This online discussion will be instrumental to identify and document good and promising practices for which evidence-based research and replication could be explored.

In 2014, the FAO Committee on Fisheries endorsed the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines). FAO is working towards developing guidance for measuring progress at the national level of the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. This e-consultation aims to solicit views, recommendations, suggestions, and good practices for monitoring the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. 

During its 45th Plenary Session, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) requested the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) to produce a brief report titled “Food security and nutrition: Building a global narrative towards 2030” that takes stock of HLPE contributions “with a view toward informing future CFS actions on FSN for all in the context of the 2030 Agenda”. The report will be presented at CFS 47th Plenary session in October 2020. The HLPE is organizing a consultation to seek inputs, suggestions, and comments on the present preliminary V0 draft.

A particular type of forests are the so-called primary forests, which are rich in native tree species, biodiversity while showing no visible indicators of human activities

FAO's Global Forest Resources Assessment provides essential information for understanding the extent of the world’s forest resources, their condition, management and uses.

This online consultation contributes to improvements of guidance and methods for reporting comparable global information for primary forest area and its changes.

During its 46th Plenary Session (14 – 18 October 2019), the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) requested its High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) to produce a report entitled “Promoting youth engagement and employment in agriculture and food systems”, to be presented in 2021. To implement this CFS request, the HLPE is launching an open e-consultation to seek views and comments on the scope and building blocks of the report.
