G77 and China - Rome Chapter 2017 - Resume’ of the new Chairperson Ambassador Elias Eljuri Abraham

Elías Eljuri Abraham was born in 1939, in the City of Churuguara, Falcón State, in Venezuela. His high school was held in the Cecilio Acosta High School in the city of Coro. At the age of 18, he came to Caracas to study at the Central University of Venezuela. In his beginnings, he was a student leader, President of the Student Center of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, actively participating in the student and political struggles against the governments of AD and COPEI. In 1965 he graduated in Statistics. In 1977 studied a postgrad on Statistics and a Social Statistic Master on the South Hampton University, England. Later entered as a Professor in the School of Statistics and in the School of Administration of the UCV from 1965 to 1989.
In 1984, he was Professors deputy to the Council of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences; also, dean of that faculty in 1987 and in 1990 was reelected. In 1992 he was Vice-Rector of the UCV, as well as other outstanding performances in that house of study. In 2000, the President of the Republic, Hugo Chávez Frías designated him National Intendent of Internal Taxes of the Integrated National Service of Customs and Tax Administration (SENIAT).
From 2003 to 2015, he held the Presidency of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In July 2015, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, appointed him as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to FAO and other United Nations agencies with headquarters in Rome.
