In the past, Monowara Begum had trouble growing enough to feed her family. But when she joined a Village Based Organization (VBO) under a project supported by FAO, she learned about improved farming techniques such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM). “I used to starve for shortage of rice, but now I sell rice,” she says proudly.

When Shipra Bagchi started shrimp farming 20 years ago, she had less than a tenth of a hectare of land. “I didn’t know the good practices of shrimp farming,” she recalls. But thanks to a project implemented by FAO and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Shipra was able to improve and increase her shrimp production.
