As the world celebrates the International Day of Rural Women on 15 October, UN Women with WFP, FAO and IFAD are launching a joint programme in Rome to empower poor rural women through economic integration and food security initiatives.

A seminar was held in FAO to introduce The Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI), a tool that was recently developed by USAID’s Bureau of Food security to track progress on women’s empowerment as a direct or indirect result of interventions under the US Government’s global hunger and food security initiative, Feed the Future.
