Gender-Responsive and Transformative Approaches in Uganda
FAO Flexible Voluntary Contribution (FVC) has funded Dimitra Clubs in several countries since 2014. This documentary features testimonials from community members active in Dimitra Clubs in Uganda. These clubs are a part of FVC’s “Innovative Gender-Responsive and Transformative Approaches for Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Uganda” project. The project aims to challenge gender discriminatory norms, enhance gender equality, and foster inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems. Leveraging participatory and community-driven approaches, it facilitates the empowerment of women and girls, promotes gender-equitable institutions, and supports innovation in selected value chains.
In Uganda, the Dimitra Clubs have been piloted in 38 villages in the Amolatar District, reaching 965 members. Through community mobilization, the clubs have brought people together to improve education, reduce gender-based violence and strengthen social cohesion. They have also worked collectively to boost nutrition, food security, and agricultural practices.
