2025 Outlook: Food Insecurity and Humanitarian Priorities in the Sahel and West Africa
52.7 million people are projected to face Crisis or worse (IPC Phase 3+) food insecurity during the 2025 lean season in West Africa and the Sahel, including 2.96 million in Emergency (IPC Phase 4). Refugee and internally displaced populations remain among the most vulnerable.
Conflict, displacement, and economic shocks continue to fuel widespread hunger across key hotspots like the Central Sahel and Lake Chad Basin.
This briefing will deliver the latest regional food security assessments and discuss urgent priorities for emergency response and long-term resilience planning.
Speakers:
- Dr Abdoulaye Guindo, Secretary General, Ministry of Health and Social Development, Government of Mali
- Brian Lander, Deputy Regional Director, WFP West and Central Africa Regional Office
- Bintia Stephen Tchicaya, FAO Subregional Coordinator a.i. for West Africa
