No peace without food security, No food security without peace
Friday 10 November 2017. 10h45 to 12h00. Room IX. Palais des Nations
A public event co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,
the World Food Programme, and the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the UN in Geneva to discuss the contribution of Food Security and Agriculture in building sustainable Peace in Colombia.
Under the Colombia’s Agreement to end conflict and build peace, signed between the Government of Colombia and the FARC in November 2016, the parties requested the Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the European Union (EU) and others partners to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Rural Reform, as one the main pillars of the peace process in the country. The event will explore how conflict-sensitive approaches to food security and nutrition can make a vital contribution to sustaining peace and preventing conflict and how the international community can effectively contribute to the implementation of the Comprehensive Rural Reform and ultimately, build sustainable peace in Colombia.
