FAO Director-General visits Geneva
FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu concluded a very successful two days mission to Geneva with a visit and meeting with the FAO Geneva team. The DG encouraged the FAO Geneva team to continue the important work with partners towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. “Geneva is the second most important multilateral venue and the key platform for development issues, therefore the office has an important role to play”, he said.
DG Qu was in Geneva attending the World Cotton Day launch at the World Trade Organization and addressed the opening session. He held several important bilateral meetings with heads of multilateral organizations including WTO, ITU, WHO, UNOG and WEF, aimed at strengthening collaboration both at headquarters and in the field. DG Qu met several other Heads of Delegation, including Ministers attending the World Cotton Day. It was a brief first visit in his capacity as DG FAO and a very productive two days of work.
The FAO Geneva office Director, Ms. Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett reaffirmed the commitment of the FAO Geneva team and thanked the DG for his visit and inspiration provided.
Qu Dongyu was elected as FAO's ninth Director-General on 23 June and began his four-year term on 1 August 2019.
