FAO Symposium on Trade & Food Security, WTO

05/06/2015

The Symposium was organized jointly by FAO LOG and FAO headquarters to share the initial findings of a series of expert consultations to testing ideas and collecting further inputs before the 2015 edition of the FAO flagship report, the State of Agricultural Commodity Markets (SOCO), is drafted.

It attracted 120 participants who interacted with members of the panel on the changing global market context and the key disputed narratives around the issue of trade and food security, the conceptual linkages and channels of interaction between the 2, and on the appropriate use of trade policy in support of food security goals.

Jamie Morrison (FAO headquarters) presented the first findings of the SOCO consultations while representatives of IDEAS Centre, the European Union, OECD, ITC, UNCTAD and ICTSD participated as discussants. The WTO Director of the Agricultural Division, Mr. Evan Rogerson, opened the event marking the very good collaboration between the two agencies. The launch of the publication is scheduled for December in Geneva.
