During the thirtieth session of the Human Rights Council, held in Geneva from the 14th of September until the 2nd of October, the Intergovernmental Working Group on the rights of peasants and other people living in rural areas presented its yearly report. During the general debate following the presentation, FAO LOG delivered a statement on behalf of FAO, highlighting the linkages between the declaration on the rights of peasants and people living in other rural areas and the strategic objectives of FAO and how the work of FAO can support the further development of the declaration.

The Missions of Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador and South Africa also submitted a resolution requesting for the extension of the mandate of the working group. The Human Rights Council approved two extra annual sessions of the working group with the mandate to negotiate, finalize an submit a draft declaration. The next annual session on the declaration on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas is planned for May 2016.
