The objectives of this technical workshop held in Geneva was to maintain an ongoing dialogue on fisheries subsidies and their disciplines among the issue’s epistemic community and to provide WTO delegates with impartial expert views, from FAO and others, on definitions and parameters, current practices and existing international codes or agreements relevant to specific elements put forward in recent proposals. The workshop drawed on the negotiating history of the issue but also on the extensive work done on the different elements by technical agencies, in particular by FAO.
