Workshop on livestock extension for the Farm Management System stakeholders

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held a workshop with the Livestock sector stakeholders involved in provision of extension support in Georgia. The event announced the launch of the Farm Management System (FMS), the only Georgian-language platform, developed on basis of international practices, which can help farmers and livestock sector stakeholders to collect, share and analyze farm related information, fostering effective management, improvement, and development of livestock farms.

The workshop participants included stakeholders from agricultural research and education organizations, state institutions and the private sector, such as feed and equipment suppliers, dairy processors, breeding organizations, as well as development support providers. The event introduced FMS and discussed the engagement possibilities and interests of each group of stakeholders.

The benefits of FMS and electronic record-keeping for farmers as end users and for the sector stakeholders were discussed, and a clear roadmap for rollout, engagement and stakeholder cooperation was identified.

The FMS was developed by FAO, in partnership with the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Cooperation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
