Strengthening technical capacities on using geospatial for delineating intervention areas in Nepal

A technical training on using geospatial technologies, mapping and delineating intervention areas for the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) in Nepal was organized on 18 July 2022. It aimed at strengthening forest and farm producer organizations (FFPOs) for monitoring their resources and activities. Representatives from four organizations representing smallholders, rural women, forest communities and indigenous peoples and FAO partner organizations participated in the training (7 females 3 males). The training included presentations, question-and-answer sessions, as well as hands-on practices and open discussions. During the training geospatial boundaries of eight community forests were delineated using boundary digitization based on satellite image interpretation. This training is a part of ongoing efforts to enhance GIS/RS capacity of FFPOs and partner organizations. Geospatial data, including metadata, developed from this continuing effort are expected to contribute to operationalizing a monitoring system to track progress of the FFF efforts in Nepal.
