Climate Change Predictions in Sub-Saharan Africa: Impacts and Adaptations (CLIMAFRICA)

ClimAfrica was an international project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Program (FP7). The project aimed to develop and apply climate forecasting models, both on a seasonal scale and for ten years, for Sub-Saharan Africa. The results were used to assess the impact of climate change on African water and water resources, and the vulnerability of ecosystems and the African population to climate change. ClimAfrica also developed specific adaptation strategies for Africa and evaluated the economic impacts of climate change. A consortium of 18 organizations, originating from 14 different countries balanced between Europe and Africa, implemented the project. FAO was a key partner, supplying technical development methodologically and the dissemination of results. The project was coordinated by the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC). The main results of this analysis can be found in the publication entitled Scenarios of the major production systems in Africa published in 2017.
