Second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress

The Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) convened the Second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad, India from 10-14 October 2022. Organized by the Government of India through its Ministry of Science and Technology, the convening of the UNWGIC stems from the mandate given by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to the Committee of Experts to convene global forums to promote an in-depth dialogue on the global management of geospatial information with all concerned governments, international organizations and stakeholders. The congress is a global event bringing together all stakeholders at the highest level to address and ensure that geospatial information has its widest and most comprehensive utility in the service of sustainable social, economic and environmental development. The second theme of the UNWGIC was “Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No one should be left behind”. The congress highlighted the importance of integrated geospatial information to support sustainable development and societal well-being, address environmental and climate challenges, embrace digital transformation and technology development, and catalyze a vibrant economy. The congress addressed the development and strengthening of integrated geospatial information management, its capabilities and capabilities, and demonstrates the importance of international cooperation and coordination to build a community of human and geographic data, against the three pillars of sustainable development, for a shared future and a better world, leaving no one behind in an inclusive and equitable global society.
