Land cover atlas of Fouta Djallon Highlands

Year published: 07/11/2012

The Fouta Djallon Highlands (FDH) has a rich natural environment and important ecosystems. Over the last decades, a number of growing threats have been contributing to the decline of its natural values. Land cover assessment and monitoring of its dynamics are essential requirements for the sustainable management of natural resources and for environmental protection. Land cover is the easiest detectable indicator that changes rapidly over time and can be used to monitor human interventions on the land. The FAO, Land and Water Division has applied FAO methodologies and FAO/ISO standards to produce a harmonized land cover database of the FDH area for 2010.
