The fourth extraordinary session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was held online on 17 December 2021. The session was chaired by Mr Roland Kristo, GFCM Chairperson, and attended by delegates from 13 contracting parties as well as representatives of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division and the GFCM Secretariat. The session was informed that the FAO Council, at its hundred and sixty-eighth session held from 29 November to 4 December 2021, endorsed the procedure for the selection and appointment of Secretaries of Article XIV Bodies. The GFCM Rules of Procedure were revised accordingly to incorporate the text of the procedure as endorsed by the Council. The FAO representative confirmed that the selection and appointment process for the next GFCM Executive Secretary, for which a vacancy announcement had already been issued, would follow the revised procedure as endorsed by the Council and newly included in the GFCM Rules of Procedure.
