The Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI) Research and Development (R&D) Coordination Component is pleased to invite you to the fifth session of the virtual GFOI R&D Exchange series: “Country-Identified R&D Needs for Forest and Land Monitoring”.
This session will take place on 16 June 2026 from 15.00 to 17.00 CEST (UTC +2.00). Space is limited – register here to secure your spot.
What are the most pressing R&D gaps that countries face in forest and land monitoring, and how can collaborations between the operational and research communities help close them? This session will present results from the GFOI R&D Country Needs Assessment, alongside country experiences on current reporting challenges, such as the estimation of forest removals and land cover change, as well as a forward look at the opportunities and challenges of AI in forest monitoring.
Join us to learn from countries and leading experts as they share practical solutions and help shape the update of GFOI R&D priorities and activities for the coming years. This event is designed for national GHG inventory compilers, remote sensing specialists, policy makers, researchers, and all stakeholders engaged in forest and carbon monitoring.
We look forward to your participation and contribution to these important discussions. Please register here for the event and share your key questions.
The GFOI R&D Exchanges are an online series of events designed to foster discussions on evolving forest monitoring methods and their applications in national forest monitoring systems. These meetings serve as a dynamic platform for our research community and interested stakeholders to exchange information and insights on recent research achievements and persisting gaps. The sessions focus on the current GFOI R&D Priorities: biomass/emission factor estimation, deforestation alerts, uncertainty analysis, and land use and greenhouse gas emissions/uptakes, including tropical wetland monitoring.
