Enhancing national forest monitoring systems for climate action: Tools, plans and approaches
Join the Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI) and its lead partner, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for the webinar “Enhancing national forest monitoring systems for climate action: Tools, plans and approaches” on 28 November 2024 from 13.00 to 14.00 CET. Register now to secure your spot!
This session will showcase the self-assessment tools for national forest monitoring systems and jurisdictional REDD+ carbon standards developed by the Forest Monitoring and Data Platforms team within the Forestry Division of FAO. Viewers will have the opportunity to hear from country representatives about their approaches to identifying potential gaps and needs, as well as prioritizing actions to address these gaps, ensuring alignment with national forest strategies and climate goals.
The webinar is being held in parallel with the weeklong series of workshops that FAO is hosting at its headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 25 to 28 November 2024 in collaboration with GFOI partners. The global forum, titled “Enhancing forest monitoring through global collaboration: A south-south knowledge exchange”, will see experts from tropical forest countries and the international community gather to discuss three key topics:
- the technical and methodological aspects of emissions measurement, reporting and verification;
- monitoring for transparent commodity value chains; and
- country-led planning for sustaining national forest monitoring systems within national institutions.
