SERVIR Amazonia

18 March 2019

GFOI welcomes SERVIR-Amazonia, the new hub for satellite data, Earth science, local data, and visualization tools across the Amazon Basin.

SERVIR Amazonia will be funded by USAID with science and technology support from NASA, and implemented by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and a network of local and international partners serving the Amazon region, including the Amazon Conservation Association (ACCA), the Institute of Agricultural and Forest Management and Certification (IMAFLORA), and Spatial Informatics Group (SIG).

SERVIR-Amazonia will carry out consultations across the region to design services that help governments, other institutions, and communities.

Activities will target Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname. The ultimate goal is to improve local capacity to harness satellite data and geospatial information to inform
decision-making and build resilience especially in the following areas:

- Drought and fire,
- Water resources and extreme events,
- Ecosystem management, and
- Weather and climate.

SERVIR Amazonia will be one of five SERVIR hubs currently operating around the world. We hope to strengthen the connections between SERVIR and GFOI in the coming years.
