Good news from Indonesia: a new bilateral partnership with GFOI's partner Norway

23 September 2022

GFOI's leading partner Norway entered into a new climate and forest partnership with Indonesia. The agreement recognizes Indonesia's results in reducing deforestation and supports its efforts.

With over 92 million hectares of forest in 2020, Indonesia comes in eighth in terms of countries with the largest area of forests globally, according to FAO's Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020.

The country reduced its deforestation over each of the past six years and is now reporting the lowest level in 20 years. It targets a net sink in the forestry and other land use sector by 2030.
