Background

This panel serves to introduce the new UK-funded AIM for Forests Programme (hereafter AIM4Forests) and follows the official launch of the Programme on Earth Day 2023.

AIM4Forests will advance work on platforms and methodological aspects of forest monitoring for climate action, with tailored materials to enhance Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ participation in forest monitoring. It will also support twenty countries over a period of five years to increase the robustness of their NFMS to generate high-integrity forest data, in support of domestic policy and decision-making as well as participation in emerging carbon accounting standards for results-based payments.

The session has the following objectives:

  • To inform the GFOI community on AIM4Forests and the underlying rationale.
  • To initiate discussions for targeted follow-up.
  • To present the country-led planning (CLP) process and collect feedback.

Format: The panel discussion will be a series of presentations with Q&A.
