Call for photos, videos, stories and voices from agricultural heritage systems

This year marks a special milestone: the 80th anniversary of FAO and the official inauguration of the Food and Agriculture Museum and Network in Rome. As part of these global celebrations, the GIAHS Programme will also host the 2025 GIAHS Certificate Award Ceremony and Exhibition: 100 Agricultural Treasures for newly designated systems.
To honor the heroes and communities who combat to keep agricultural heritage alive every day, we are collecting powerful visual and creative content that reflects the richness, resilience, and diversity of GIAHS systems worldwide. All GIAHS are invited to contribute.
Deadline for submissions: 31 May 2025
What we are looking for:
1. Photos
- High-resolution (300 dpi minimum)
- Showing:
- Farmers and local communities (with consent)
- Traditional agricultural practices and tools
- Biodiversity in crops, animals, and landscapes
- Rituals, food, crafts, and everyday life
Please include diversity of gender, age, and cultural identity
2. Videos
- Edited/produced videos (provide YouTube, Vimeo, or similar links)
- Raw footage also welcome (for editorial use)
3. Local sayings or literary pieces
- A short poem, haiku, proverb, or reflective phrase that expresses the deep connection between people, nature, and tradition, and how agricultural systems have been shaped through generations.
Written in a local language, with English translation
4. Success stories
We are also calling for short success stories that illustrate the impact of GIAHS designation at the local level. These should:
- Feature a person, family, or community
- Describe what changed after the designation: what, how, when, and where
- Highlight tangible results (e.g. improved livelihoods, increased visibility, cultural pride, biodiversity recovery)
- Be written in 300–500 words
- Include at least one high-resolution photo of the main person(s) featured
