Системы сельскохозяйственного наследия мирового значения (ГИАХС), представляющие собой формировавшиеся веками потрясающие природные ландшафты, не только обеспечивают местные общины необходимыми ресурсами, но и позволяют сохранить их культуру. В рамках этих систем формируется неразрывная взаимосвязь между сельскохозяйственным ландшафтом и более широкой социальной средой. От этих экосистем зависят источники средств к существованию местных общин, а сохранение самих экосистем в свою очередь обеспечивается благодаря традиционным знаниям и устойчивым методам ведения хозяйства этих общин.
