Join us in celebrating the 2nd Dialogue on Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems in Europe and Central Asia

14 April 2021

The 2nd Dialogue on Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) in Europe and Central Asia aims to promote the recognition and awareness-raising among countries on potential GIAHS sites in the region and develop a regional road map for the dynamic conservation of these resilient agricultural systems.

Experts and participants will present already existing advances and potential GIAHS sites in the region.

This meeting will give an opportunity to countries in Europe and Central Asia to discuss the local agri-food systems' challenges and build solid proposals for FAO GIAHS recognition.

The Dialogue will discuss the resilience and vulnerability of these agricultural systems to crises such as the one we are currently experiencing, as well as the environmental and climate change crises that are both predicted to worsen in the post-pandemic era.

Topics such as the role of GIAHS in the economic diversification of local agricultural systems, agrotourism and labelling to promote market access and improve the value chain of local and traditional products in Europe and Central Asia, will also be discussed.

Through this event, FAO also aims to support and catalyze the potential of at least 3 countries in Europe and Central Asia to become Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems in 2021.
