Wholesale prices of rice declined month-on-month, while wheat prices strengthened across the subregion in June 2026, reflecting seasonal trends

13/07/2026

Wholesale prices of yellow maize exhibited mixed month-on-month trends across the subregion in June 2026. In Argentina, prices of yellow maize remained nearly unchanged month-on-month in June 2026, as the upward pressure on prices from strong export demand was counterbalanced by improved seasonal supplies. Compared to the previous year, prices were about 28 percent higher, reflecting robust export demand and limited supplies from 2025 below average output. By contrast, in Brazil and Paraguay, wholesale prices of yellow maize declined across monitored markets in June 2026, eased by the minor season harvest, that is nearing completion. The exception was Rio Grande do Sul Market in Brazil, where maize prices increased for the third consecutive month, due to a slowdown in harvesting operations as producers prioritized the soybean harvest. On a yearly basis, prices were lower in the two aforementioned countries, as markets were adequately supplied with record 2025 harvests. In Peru, yellow maize prices strengthened by 7 percent on a monthly basis, pressured by reduced supplies from lower year-on-year import volumes between February and May 2026. Maize prices remained near their previous year level, as higher production costs from rising fuel and fertilizer prices offset the downward pressure from the above-average 2025 output. Similarly, in Colombia, prices of yellow maize strengthened seasonally across the monitored markets in June 2026, ahead of the start of the minor season harvest in July. Higher year-on-year import volumes from June 2025 to April 2026 kept maize prices lower than the previous year in Bogotá Market. In Uruguay, with improved supplies from the main season harvest, maize prices contracted month-on-month in May 2026 and were about 5 percent above their year-earlier level, reflecting the negative impact of dry conditions on 2026 outturn.

In June 2026, wholesale prices of rice mostly weakened monthly in the subregion, in line with seasonal trends. In Paraguay, rice prices registered a cumulative 10 percent decline between April and June 2026, weighed down by ample supplies from the main season harvest, and were lower compared to the previous year, on account of the bumper 2025 harvest. Similarly, in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, prices of rice remained stable or declined in June, reflecting adequate seasonal availabilities from the ongoing harvests. In the three aforementioned countries, rice prices were below their previous year’s level, pressured downward by above-average 2025 outturns. In Uruguay, the national average price of rice declined for the second consecutive month in May 2026, with markets adequately supplied from the ongoing harvest, and were about 40 percent lower yearon-year, as the above-average 2025 outturn kept prices down.

Wholesale prices of wheat grain strengthened monthly across most of the monitored markets in June 2026, reflecting reduced seasonal supplies. In June, wholesale prices of wheat increased seasonally in Argentina and Brazil. In Argentina, prices of wheat grain were up to 28 percent above their level of the previous year, reflecting the near doubling of wheat export demand between July 2025 and May 2026. By contrast, in Brazil, prices remained lower on a yearly basis, eased by large import volumes in the second half of 2025. In Uruguay, wholesale prices of wheat grain strengthened for the third consecutive month in May 2026, in line with seasonal trends, and were about 6 percent higher than in May 2025, reflecting tighter supplies from the year-on-year output contraction in 2025. In the main net wheat-importing countries in the subregion, wheat flour prices remained stable month-on-month in Peru in June 2026, reflecting good market availabilities, while they increased monthly in Bogotá Market in Colombia, due to tighter market supplies from a year-on-year reduction in imports between January and April 2026. In the aforementioned countries, prices of wheat flour were slightly lower compared to the previous year, in line with lower year-onyear international prices in Canada, the main source of wheat imports.
