This discussion paper provides an overview of dietary surveys conducted in LMICs from 1980 to 2019, analysing their key characteristics to understand the trends in dietary data collection across time.

The purpose of this report, produced jointly by the Food and Nutrition Division of FAO and the Intake Center for Dietary Assessment, is to take stock and celebrate the collection and use of dietary data in LMICs, and generate further momentum for investment in dietary surveys in LMICs.

FAO/WHO GIFT will be presented at a Side Event of the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Forum on 6 May 2022, 7:30-9:00 EDT/13.30-15.00 CEST, following a Mapping of Digital-Related Initiatives Across the UN System, where 489 inputs from 39 UN entities were received.
