Collecting and disseminating reliable and accurate dietary data are the first steps to support formulating evidence-based policies and programs. FAO/WHO GIFT enables dietary data to be disseminated in a harmonized format that serves the needs at the highest possible level of decision-making.
This stakeholder workshop provided continuation of the work undertaken to share dietary data from the Lao People's Democratic Republic through FAO/WHO GIFT platform by presenting the platform to the end users – the policy makers - to raise awareness and promote the use of data in various domains and nutrition-related sectors: agriculture, planning and Finance, education fisheries, health and others; at national and provincial levels.

The FAO/WHO GIFT platform now has 32 datasets available.
You can now access 10 nationwide datasets from the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Italy, India, Mexico, Brazil, two datasets from Bulgaria and two datasets from Romania.
Furthermore, you can now access 22 sub-national surveys from Bolivia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pakistan, Guatemala, Malaysia, India, the United Republic of Tanzania, two surveys from Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Bangladesh, Uganda, Zambia, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Argentina and six surveys from Kenya.

The Food and Nutrition Division (ESN) at FAO led a 3-week training course with 25 participants gathered in Vientiane, Lao PDR and others on Zoom to explain how to use dietary data. The attendees, included representatives from the Ministry of Health - the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao-TPHI), Nutrition Center, Department of Hygiene and Health Promotion, and the University of Health Sciences, all of whom will be able to use the techniques to support evidence-based policy making.

Call for Expression of Interest: Funds available!

EXTENDED Closing date for applications: 18.06.2021.
This Call for Expression of Interest, issued by FAO, is to identify institutions from low- and middle-income countries, with access to Individual Quantitative Food Consumption (IQFC) data that could be shared through the FAO/WHO GIFT platform. Selected institutions will be invited to pass a contractual agreement with FAO with the objective of harmonizing the data and the supporting documentation according to FAO standards. Based on such agreement, FAO will cover the costs of the harmonization work.
