Latin America is closing the net on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as several States start disseminating their data through the Global Record Information System.
El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Brazil and Chile are the latest countries to disseminate certified data provided by their official State authorities which are also responsible for it.
They join Colombia, Peru, Panama and Argentina which submitted data earlier on, together with Uruguay which participated in the Pilot project.
The Global Record Information System is a single access point for information on vessels used for fishing and fishing-related activities to combat IUU fishing. It was launched in April 2017.
