Photocontest on #Soils4Nutrition
In the framework of the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition (#Soils4Nutrition) to be held in a virtual format from 26 to 29 July 2022, FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP) is launching a photocontest on #Soils4Nutrition.

About
Are you a professional, occasional or ‘wannabe’ photographer? Are you a soil scientist, an environmentalist, an activist, or just a fan who would like to improvise him/herself as a photographer for one day? Join the contest and send us your photographs that will compete for public voting during the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition. Special prizes for the winners are up for grab!
The photographs should illustrate any of the following aspects:
- Importance of soils for food security, nutritious food and healthy diets;
- Nutrient deficiencies in crop;
- Danger of soil nutrient losses/ nutritional imbalances;
- Techniques and management practices to improve soil.

Rules for participation
- Each participant can submit up to five photographs by filling and submitting the registration form.
- Entries should be sent by email to [email protected] by 15 July 2022 using any file transfer services.
- Entrants must own the copyright and must have taken the photographs themselves. They may have been taken at any time prior to the close of the contest.
- Photographs should fall under the topics mentioned above.
- Each submitted photograph must have a title and a short description/caption explaining the contest and where/when the photo was taken (max. 150 words).
- Participants are invited to post their photos on social media accounts, using the competition hashtags: #Soils4Nutrition and #GlobalSoilPartnership #UNFAO. The FAO corporate social media may share and retweet the winning photos on corporate accounts.

- The FAO-GSP respects photographers’ rights and does not claim copyright over images submitted to this contest. The author retains full copyright for each entry. Whenever the image is published, the author will be credited.
- Participation in the contest grants FAO-GSP permission to use the image for the preparation of FAO material and on FAO digital channels.
- FAO-GSP does NOT own copyright and authors are free to use the image for other purposes at their choosing.
Format
Format
- Photographs must be submitted in .jpeg, .png, .psd, .raw, or .tiff format. Images should be submitted with the highest quality regarding file size, bit depth, and resolution. Both colour and/or black and white images will be accepted.
- The material must not violate or infringe tierce’s rights, including but not limited to trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement.
- The submission must not contain dates, texts, brand names, logos and/or trademarks.

The jury is comprised of an independent group of 5 individuals with different areas of expertise in photography, science and scientific communication from the GSP Secretariat and the GSOIL4N Organizing Committee.

- The first 10 winners will receive a certificate of recognition, soil related gadgets, FAO publications, and will have their entries exposed on UN/FAO websites and social media channels.
- A special article will also feature the winner(s) of the contest.

*Shortlisted entries may be posted on social media accounts for the public voting. GSOIL4N participants will also be encouraged to vote for their favorite photographs.
