How to get involved

Anyone can join the Global Soil Doctors Programme and contribute to the selection and training of Soil Doctors all over the world. Members of extension services, private sector, farmer associations, academia, soil science societies as well as independent actors, can be actively involved in the capacity building process. Moreover, the programme can benefit from the contribution of any actor who would like to share training materials, tutorials, local knowledge and field experiences through this website.

JOIN AS A PROMOTER

Interested promoters should read the Terms of Reference (ToRs) were selecting criteria, roles and benefits are explained. If the potential Promoters meet the mentioned criteria, they should fill-in the REGISTRATION FORM, which defines the mutual commitment between them and the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) to achieve the training of farmers on Sustainable Soil Management. Once registered in the Global Soil Doctors Programme database, the Promoter and the GSP agrees on an IMPLEMENTATION PLAN designed ad-hoc for the specific agrifood system.

Independent stakeholders that do not match with the criteria listed in the ToRs of the Promoter, can collaborate with the GSP in the implementation of the Programme at any implementation step, using the educational material and the guidelines already available.

How to join:

  1. Read the ToRs (EN | FR | ES);
  2. Sign-in as a Promoter or as an independent stakeholder using this ONLINE FORM (EN | FR | ES);
  3. Develop the IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (mandatory for National Promoters);
  4. Report the training activities to the GSP.

Soil Doctors trainers can be soil experts, extensionists or technicians that are provided with certified trainings, educational material and SOIL EDUCATIONAL KITS. The selection and training process to become a certified Soil Doctor trainers is carried out by the Global Soil Partnership that evaluates the eligibility of candidates proposed by the Promoter, according to specific criteria (see Annex 1 of the Terms of Reference: EN | FR | ES).

Eligible trainers should contact the closer promoting institution according to the MAP. If no institutions are implementing the programme in the country, you can propose possible promoters to the GSP at [email protected].

Independent actors can also become soil doctors trainers using the educational material and guidelines available HERE and train farmers in their area.

Soil Doctors are provided with certified trainings, educational material and SOIL EDUCATIONAL KITS. Moreover, as they are the reference for the implementation of Sustainable Soil Management (SSM) practices in their local community, they are provided with FAO's Global Soil Partnership (GSP)'s VISUAL MATERIAL such as the branded cap, vest, and backpack. The selection and training process to become a certified Soil Doctor is carried out by the Promoter or by an independent actor that evaluates the eligibility of voluntary candidates according to specific criteria (see Annex 2 of the Terms of Reference: EN | FR | ES).

Farmers interested in receiving the training/certification/support to become a Soil Doctor should contact the closer institution or independent actor that collaborates with the GSP for the implementation of the programme, based on the information included on the GLOBAL MAP. If there are no nearby institutions already involved, interested farmers should contact the GSP Secretariat at: [email protected]

Independent farmers can also become Soil Doctors by using the educational material and guidelines available HERE and train their fellow farmers.

Farmers interested in receiving the training by a certified Soil Doctor should contact the closer institution or independent actor that collaborates with the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) for the implementation of the Programme based on the GLOBAL MAP. If there are no nearby institutions already involved, please contact the GSP Secretariat at: [email protected].

Through the Global Soil Doctors Programme, farmers will have the chance to develop their own skills to make responsible decision on soil management. Farmers can share local knowledge with the Soil Doctors enriching the Programme itself with new inputs while improving their farming system and the productivity/health of their soils.

Donors or projects interested in contributing to facilitate the implementation of the Programme in the field should contact the closer institution or independent actor that collaborates with the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) for the implementation of the programme, based on the information included on the GLOBAL MAP.
