Harmonizing action on pesticide residues in soils through tools, data and capacity building | 26 June, 12:00- 14:00 CEST
Soil pollution from pesticides poses a growing threat to food safety, human health, and environmental sustainability, particularly in agricultural regions. This webinar, organized by the International Network on Soil Pollution (INSOP), in partnership with the Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) and Wageningen University, aims to raise awareness of the scale and implications of pesticide pollution in soils, with a focus on new data from Africa and lessons from the EU SPRINT project. The event will highlight how persistent pesticide residues compromise ecosystem services and contribute to risks within the One Health framework.
CONCEPT NOTE | RECORDING

The webinar will launch a newly developed harmonized standard operating procedure (SOP) for the laboratory analysis of pesticide residues in soils. It will showcase its relevance for national monitoring frameworks, discuss the integration of soil components into existing FAO pesticide management tools, and identify capacity-building needs to strengthen laboratory and regulatory systems worldwide. The event will foster knowledge exchange with countries such as Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Cape Verde, and the Bahamas, promote collaboration, and support these countries in advancing soil pollution monitoring and risk management strategies.
