Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition

The Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition - “Soils, where food begins” will be held in a virtual format from 26 to 29 July 2022. Organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP), the symposium will bring science and policy together to review the status and challenges of soil fertility in relation with crop, animal and human nutrition.

The main objectives of the Symposium are to review the state of the art on the role of soil fertility in delivering sufficient, high quality, safe, and more nutritious food for better nourished people, animals and plants. The Symposium is expected to identify critical knowledge gaps and provide the basis for discussion among policymakers, food producers, scientists, the fertilizer industry, practitioners, and other stakeholders on the creation of solutions that can provide more nutritious agri-food systems for enhanced human health and wellbeing while protecting the environment.

Participation to the Symposium is free. Participants will include representatives from UN organizations, FAO members, academia, scientists, practitioners, policy makers, private businesses, research institutes, NGOs, civil society, farmers associations, and land users.

The Organizing Committee of GSOIL4N is currently accepting abstracts that will compete for oral and poster presentations during this Symposium. The abstracts should be written in English with a maximum of 3 000 characters (without spaces) and submitted directly on the abstract submission portal by 30 May 2022.

Abstracts should address one of the following symposium themes:

THEME 1: Status and trends of global soil nutrient budget;

THEME 2: Sustainable soil management for food security and better nutrition;

THEME 3: Impacts of soil nutrient management on the environment and climate change;

THEME 4: Governance of soil fertility/soil nutrients.

If you have any technical problems compiling the information in the abstract submission portal, please email us [email protected]. The GSOIL4N Scientific Committee will revise all submissions and inform selected authors by 20 June 2022.
