This contemporary shadow theatre showcases in a light and engaging style the interactions between people, the soil beneath our feet and soil salinization. This video was launched at the opening of the World Soil Day 2021 official event celebrated under the motto “Halt soil salinization, Boost soil productivity”. FAO, through its Global Soil Partnership has the official mandate to implement the worldwide World Soil Day celebrations. The two artists, Cecilia Valagussa and the singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi are part of the Fossick Project.

BRICKS FOR LIFE, prepared by Fossick Project for the FAO’s GSP Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition (26-29 July 2022, FAO HQ). It tells the story of a modern adventure in the nutrient cycle’s world, from the soil below our feet to the table.

This special song was prepared by Ms Serena Brancale specifically for the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP). It highlights the beauty of soil, and takes us on a journey through the lives of farmers, scientists and those who protect our soils.

This video message was shown at the Global Soil Partnership Plenary (23 May 2022). At the closing of the opening session, Grammy Award and Golden Globe winning Artist, Laura Pausini delivered a strong message for soil protection and greeted the GSP Plenary on its tenth anniversary”.

GSP conducted an online interview Dr Diana Wall, a renowned soil ecologist and environmental scientist, and the keynote speaker for the Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity (GSOBI20). Dr. Wall addressed the main constraints and obstacles in considering soil biodiversity as a nature-based solution to today’s global challenges, provided some key methods to address these obstacles, and the implementation methods.
