In Senegal, FAO is supporting the National Agency of the Great Green Wall in the framework of its project Action Against Desertification, which aims to improve the living conditions of local communities, while strengthening the resilience and productivity of agrosilvopastoral systems. Since 2015, the project has worked on community-based management of land and natural resources.
Since its launch in 2016, Action Against Desertification has been supporting over 50 rural communities in Gambia’s North Bank Region, Central River Region North and Upper River Region North to sustainably manage forest resources and control land degradation and deforestation. T
Action Against Desertification aims to build the resilience and increase the productivity of forest landscapes in Fiji, while improving the livelihoods of the local population through the restoration of degraded land and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Since 2015, Action Against Desertification helps local communities in the Jérémie arrondissement of Haiti’s Grand’Anse department with the restoration of degraded land by planting native species of trees, shrubs and grasses. The project also promotes the development of non-timber forest products.
