The GFOI Plenary 2023 took place from 9 to 11 May 2023 at the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome and online. Countries have made significant progress in developing and operationalizing their national forest monitoring systems (NFMS) to comply with the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) framework under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Change Conference (COP 27) opened with a shared sense of urgency, as speakers underscored the devastating climate impacts that have occurred this year.
