E-nugget n. 11 – Water Harvesting and Agroforestry

The Land and Water division is organizing an e-nugget training on Water Harvesting and Agroforestry. The event will discuss the relevance of water collection and storage techniques and will present a number of best practices applicable under various geographical conditions. Furthermore, agronomic and soil water conservation techniques will be introduced and illustrated through the presentation of cases from the Sahel and North Africa regions.

The training will covere the following topics:

• Introduction to in-situ water harvesting and surface storage techniques;
• Water recharge and retention systems for agriculture;
• Soil water retention and composting techniques;
• Planning and management of landscapes for agricultural production and related impacts  – presentation of case studies;
• Introduction to agroforestry and opportunities for application in North Africa and Sahel regions;
• Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) techniques;
• Presentation of case studies.

The training will be delivered by Laura Guarnieri (FAO), Theib Oweis (ICARDA) and Prof. Mohamed Sabir (École Nationale Forestière d'Ingénieurs, Morocco), in English with French subtitles.
