E-nugget n. 2 – Crop Water Productivity (French)

In the framework of the Building Forward Better Initiative – Strengthening natural resources management capacities to revitalize agriculture in fragile contexts, the Land and Water Division of FAO is launching a series of E-Learning Nugget Courses to professionals in Libya, Mali and Niger.

The second training, organized on 26th May 2020, will be on Sustainable Agricultural Water Management and Enhanced Crop Water Productivity. The training will present the evolution of the standard Crop Water Productivity approach and introduce the most recent application developed through field applications. In particular, it will focus on:

Irrigation and food security:

• The status of food security in the world and in Africa;
• The role of irrigation in food security;
• Irrigation development and food security.
  

Irrigation and poverty:

• Evidence that irrigation alleviates poverty;
• How irrigation affects poverty.

Irrigation and water resources:

• Competition between sectors
• Irrigation and water scarcity
• Water quality and salinity

The course will be addressed by Mr Eduardo Mansur, CBL Director, FAO; and delivered by Professor Elias Fereres and Margarita Garcia-Vila from the University of Cordoba, Spain.
