Workshop planning sheet

Course Name:

FAO Project Cycle Workshop

Format:

Virtual Workshop

Total length:

78 chronological hours attended in 10 weeks

Workshop modality and methodology:

This workshop organizes seven technical-pedagogical units for sequential exploration, which means that once a unit has been thoroughly reviewed, it is possible to access the next one. However, once completely revised, the workshop design partially allows access to the contents through specific consultations in the corresponding units.

Each unit describes a differentiated theme in its contents and activities linked to the different project cycle phases, nevertheless they determine the achievement of the learning objective. Throughout the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to review concepts, learn and reinforce procedures and apply the criteria. The technical-pedagogical units connect to key concepts of the study topic regarding the implementation of projects throughout their life cycle under the logical framework approach.

This workshop will provide three tools through which will deliver the technical content and review applied case studies:

The tools are the following:

  • Text in pdf format for each unit: each unit, linked to one of the project cycle phases, will have a text detailing the FAO administrative process through which each formulated project must pass, explaining the steps, validations, and requirements to fulfil.
  • Platform forum: A forum with a tutor will be available to share doubts, ask questions and establish a common space for self-learning support for each unit.
  • Weekly virtual workshops: Virtual meetings will be held within each unit with the respective focal point, moderated by the tutor, to have a space for additional consultations that can be discussed and resolved within the seminar/workshop. The objective of these virtual workshops is not to provide additional knowledge already reviewed in points 1 and 2 but to work on practical and concrete cases that deepen the content reviewed.
Start and end of course:

From October 5 to December 14, 2022

Target audience:

The workshop is aimed at project formulation teams in all FAO Representations in the region who are involved in designing, implementing, and evaluating projects in the FAO context. This training is done by closing the invitation to FAO teams. The participant will receive an email with an application form.

General objective:

Strengthen technical capacities for appropriate project design, emphasising initiative development that generates tangible results and large-scale impacts that contribute to the positive transformation of reality, the achievements of FAO's strategic objectives, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (ODS) at the country and regional levels.

Specific objectives:
  • Reinforce knowledge of project formulation definitions under the logical framework methodology to evaluate the project's contribution to the Organization's results chain.
  • Analyze and review FAO's project life cycle stages through the practical use of the platforms designed for this purpose.
  • Reinforce the horizontal and vertical logic concepts in the Logical Framework Methodology context and their importance related to both the design and measurement of proposed and achieved results.
  • Analyze the processes of project development within FAO, from a technical and administrative point of view, from formulation to evaluation and closure.
Workshop content:

The following is a summary of the content to be reviewed in the workshop identifying the channels through which they will be delivered as defined in the previous methodology section. At the beginning of the first unit, we will present the introduction to the workshop, in which we will briefly explain:

  • Constituent Elements of the Platform.
